Bill, one additional note about your opening comments. You say we need Scotty to win as if he's the only person remaining that can sing without all of the other "manufactured accompaniments." Are you saying that Haley can't simply sing and that she can't sing as well as Scotty? If that is the case, then I think you are mistaken in that regard.

What I mean is that Haley is more likely to be handled by post-season producers in the vein of most modern day singers (selling the package, the videos, the fluff) over the voice.
I'm 100 percent sure that Scotty will be sold without all the smoke and mirros since it fits his persona.
No disrespect intended towards Haley, just the music industry.

    @Bill: Understood

@Jennifer: You are the most important part of the show, you and all of our amazing listeners!

Onto tonight's Top 3 proceedings, despite what's been announced and leaked, here's what would have been MY choices for each of the Top 3:

    Lauren:

Teardrops On My Guitar by Taylor Swift

Blackbird by The Beatles (tender moment with a non-country song)

Bubbly by Colbie Callait (youthful and relatively current, make it more country too)

    Haley:

    Strong Enough by Sheryl Crow

    Dy'er Mak'er by Led Zeppelin

    I'm Yours by Jason Mraz

    Scotty:

    The Gambler by Kenny Rogers

I Won't Back Down by Tom Petty (Johnny Cash version)

You Don't Mess Around With Jim by Jim Croce

It's anyone's game to take the last slot in the finale, but Scotty definitely earned his keep last night. Good job by him. I still say it's a Lauren-Scotty finale, but would love to see Haley-Scotty instead.

I'm a huge Duffy, Adele, Amy Winehouse, Ingrid Michaelson, Ani Di Franco, etc fan, and Hayley would fit right into that genre with some good songs and a good producer.

I would love to see a Haley/Scotty final...Lauren will go home tonight, IMO.
I agree that Haley has a very "current" sound, and should do well post-idol.
Scotty will be a country star...He really doesn't need to win.
So, I say Haley, all the way!!!

    question for Matt
On the blogs Ive been reading a lot about the judges being too nice this season. Do you think they will try to find a meaner judge next year?

A lot has been made of Idol "Moments" the last few weeks. Here are the Idol moments that really stick with me, season by season.

    Season 1:

    Kelly Clarkson –
    Natural Woman
    Stuff Like That There
Can’t Live (if Living is Without You)
A Moment Like This (one of the only original songs I liked, and it fit the moment PERFECTLY when she teared up on stage)

Christina Christian: Ain’t No Sunshine When He’s Gone

Tamyra Gray: A House Is Not A Home

    Justin Guarini: Get Here
(very underrated performance, the only time I liked him)

    Season 2:

    Kim Locke: Inseparable

Clay Aiken: Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On Me, Bridge Over Troubled Water

Ruben Studdard: Superstar (the first time, not all the other times he did it)

    Season 3:

Jon Peter Lewis: A Little Less Conversation
(got him the Wild Card slot! Loved the showmanship)

    Fantasia: Summertime

    Jennifer Hudson: Imagine

    LaToya London: All By Myself

    Season 4:

    Constantine Maroulis: Bohemian Rhapsody

    Carrie Underwood: Alone
(stepped out of the country realm and nailed it)

Bo Bice: The a capella song during the final 2 performance night

    Season 5:

    Ace Young: Father Figure

    Kellie Pickler: Walkin’ After Midnight

Paris Bennett: Midnight Train To Georgia
    (plus HER AUDITION WAS AMAZING)

Taylor Hicks: Levon, Trouble, Living For The City
(his audition was also amazing, plus all of his performances were entertaining.)

Elliott Yamin: A Song For You

Katharine McPhee: Somewhere Over The Rainbow

    Season 6:

    Melinda Doolittle: My Funny Valentine

Jordin Sparks: I Who Have Nothing

Blake Lewis: You Give Love A Bad Name

    Season 7:

David Cook: Always Be My Baby, Billie Jean

Brooke White: Love Is A Battlefield

    Season 8:

Allison Iraheta: Someone To Watch Over Me

Adam Lambert: Tracks of My Tears, Mad Love, Black or White

    Kris Allen: Heartless

    Season 9:

    Andrew Garcia: Straight Up (Hollywood)

    Didi Benami: Terrified (Hollywood)

    Lilly Scott: Fixing A Hole

    Casey James: Jealous Guy
    (outstanding emotional resonance)

    Siobhan Magnus: Paint It Black

Crystal Bowersox: I’m Alright (you want to talk about taking an original song and breathing new life into it, this was INCREDIBLE)

    Season 10:

ASHLEY SULLIVAN’S ELIMINATION (remember her? lol)

Haley Reinhart: Bennie and the Jets, What Is And What Should Never Be, House of the Rising Sun

Haley Reinhart and Casey Abrams: Moanin’ (duet)

    Casey Abrams: Nature Boy

    James Durbin: Heavy Metal

Pia Toscano: I’ll Stand By You

Jacob Lusk: God Bless The Child (Hollywood)

Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery: I Told You So (duet, only time I liked both of them more than a wimper)

Scotty McCreery: Audition – Your Man (that was classic)

Someone asked me about this, and after much consideration all day, if I had to pick just 10, here's my gut feeling for ranking them:

    10. Kelly Clarkson: Stuff Like That There, Season One Big Band Night -- the one where she really broke away from the rest of the pack.

    9. Jon Peter Lewis: A Little Less Conversation, Season Three Wild Card Round -- in the season of the Three Divas, this quirky little number still stands tall to this day. The guy had guts, and it was one of the first times the fans propelled a contestant into the finals that Simon absolutely hated. JPL wasn't ever going to win, but he knew his limits and worked the crowd to perfection on that night, in that moment.

    8. Paris Bennett, Midnight Train To Georgia, Season Five -- one of the spunkiest contestants ever, and this rendition was just a perfect mesh between singer and song.

    7. David Cook, Always Be My Baby, Season Seven: Unlike Billie Jean, this WAS Cook's own brand new rearrangement of a Mariah Carey pop ditty, and it really showed off his vocal prowess, too. People lump Cook into the whole WGWG phenomenon, but vocally he can sing rings around Kris Allen and Lee Dewyze. This performance is exemplary of that fact.

    6. Blake Lewis, You Give Love A Bad Name, Season Six: You want to talk about guts, then look no further than Blake Lewis on Bon Jovi night in Season Six. He bravely messed with the flow of a damn good song, molded it to his personality and his vocal strengths, and managed to pull it all together to offer up the perfect mix of singing and beatboxing. This one propelled Blake passed Melinda Doolittle too, which was a true accomplishment that season.

    5. Haley Reinhart, Bennie and the Jets, Season 10: This was Haley's true moment, and her real momentum-building coming out party on the Idol stage. This was also her arrangement, and her vocals just soared to new heights as she weaved her way in and out seamlessly and, well, flawlessly too.

    4. Adam Lambert, Tracks of My Tears, Season 8: Loved everything about this night for Adam, from the way he listened to Smokey Robinson to pin down the emotional meaning behind the song, to the way he simply became one with the lyrics during the live show. A testament to his diversity and ability to show a softer side to balance out his angst.

    3. Fantasia: Summertime, Season 3 -- The best pure rendition of a classic song on Idol, ever. For all the screaming and "Yeah Yeah Yeahs" that became Fantasia's trademark, when she toned down her act and simply sang, the result was nuanced brilliance that is rarely if ever matched.

    2. Taylor Hicks: AUDITION, Season Five: Just pure blues and soul from a very unexpected source, and despite his post-Idol mismanagement, no one can take away Taylor's underdog story that unfolded during a very competitive season that is still my favorite to this day.

    1. Kelly Clarkson: A Moment Like This, Season One Post-Victory Finale performance. When Kelly teared up, I just bawled out with tears of my own.

    GREAT NEWS FOR HALEY FANS!!!

Haley Reinhart’s parents continue to be a font of information! They revealed in a performance at Wheeling High School last night that:

--Haley will get a single and if that works out, she will get an album

--The new single likely to be performed on the finale

--She rejected two songs before settling on the single
